Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme that offers future leaders the unique opportunity to study in the UK. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding professionals from all over the world to pursue a one-year master’s degree in any subject at any UK university.

Chevening provides fully-funded scholarships, leaving you free to focus on achieving your academic goals and enjoying the experience of a lifetime. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, grow your network, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Selection updates and timelines

Once you apply for a 2019/2020 Chevening Scholarship you will receive email updates about your application status at each step of the selection process. You can also check your status in the online application system. Log in using the details you registered with. Take a look at the Chevening application timeline and our FAQs for a better understanding of the upcoming stages of the selection process.

Please note that if you are shortlisted for an award, you will be required to log into the online application system and request a reference from your referees. The request will generate an email to the referees and they will need to submit the reference by Monday, 25 February 2019. If your referees do not submit by this deadline, you will be unable to proceed with an interview.

If you are successful at the interview stage and are conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you provide evidence that you meet the Chevening English language requirements and that you have at least one unconditional offer from an eligible course by 11 July 2019 in order to remain in the process.

Due to the large number of applications received, we are unable to provide individual application status updates or feedback to unsuccessful applicants. Please do not contact your British embassy or high commission with application enquiries.

Notice: We have been made aware of agencies offering assistance on Chevening Scholarship applications for a fee. We can confirm that these agencies are not approved or endorsed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, or the Chevening Secretariat. We advise potential applicants against the use of these services in the strongest possible terms. Use of a paid for service for Chevening applications is not permitted.

English language test availability in this country can be limited, so we strongly encourage you to book your test as soon as possible. Please see our English language page for further details on the test providers accepted by Chevening.

Local news

On Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 October, Chevening Alumni hosted a ground-breaking forum on the topic of Public Policy and Behavioural Sciences in Montevideo, Uruguay. The event, which received funding from the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF), marked a pivotal moment for Uruguay, as it was the first forum of its kind in the country’s history. It was a truly collaborative effort, bringing together Chevening Alumni from 15 Latin American countries to discuss pressing issues facing policy makers in the region. Read more

Scholar blog - first impressions
September and October are busy times for Chevening Scholars. It’s the time when they are packing their bags and travelling to the UK having been awarded a Chevening Scholarship to study in the UK for a one-year master’s degree. ‘With kindness, we will change the leadership landscape,’ said Pinky Lilani CBE (Founder, Women of the Future Programme), kicking off the 2018 Women of the Future Summit in London with a call to action. Twenty five Chevening Scholars were privileged to attend this dynamic event, which aims to connect, inspire, and support the next generation of women in leadership. On the theme of ‘Harnessing the Power of Trust,’ 350 delegates from 44 countries were invited to reflect on the changing nature of trust, and discuss what this means for future models of leadership. Universities Wales is pleased to announce a partnership with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the creation of the Chevening Universities Wales Scholarships. Universities Wales will co-fund up to ten Vietnamese scholars in 2020/2021 and in 2021/2022 to study a one-year taught master’s in any subject at a Welsh university as part of the prestigious Chevening Scholarships programme. On Saturday, 3 November, Chevening Alumni in East China celebrated 35 years of Chevening with HRH The Duke of York. The exclusive reception was held in Shanghai, where the Duke is leading the UK Delegation for the China International Import Expo (CIIE). The celebration was a unique opportunity for Chevening Alumni to share their experiences of the UK with the Duke, and to showcase the impact that Chevening has had on their lives and careers.
