Marketing year-round in Turkmenistan

Applications for the 2018/2019 round may have closed on 7 November, but Turkmenistan's Chevening Officer Murad Kakajykov has continued marketing, with staff from the embassy attending the Education and Sport annual exhibition in Ashgabat on 9-10 November 2017 to promote the programme.

The exhibition was very well-attended and the Chevening stand was kept busy with interested students and future Chevening candidates from Turkmenistan. Over 500 people visited the stand over the two days and showed their interest in the programme. Visitors to the Chevening stand varied from university students and professors to people from private sector businesses and international organisations. 

The Embassy used the only accessible social media site in the country, Line, to encourage people to visit the stand and to generate more interest in the programme.

British Ambassador Thorda Abbott-Watt accompanied Turkmenistan’s Minister of Education His Excellency Purli Agamyradov to visit the Chevening stand, where the Embassy team briefed him on Chevening’s contribution to Turkmenistan. They stressed the importance of education for the talented future leaders in Turkmenistan. 

Overall, the exhibition proved that there is a genuine interest in studying in the UK and that Chevening is seen as a good opportunity to make this happen.
