It’s a new month, which means a whole new lot of exciting things to do and see across the UK. We’ve picked out a few which we think are particularly good. Enjoy!

The Grand National

7 – 9 April, Aintree

You could be one of almost 200,000 who attend what is arguably the UK’s most famous horse racing event. Friday is Ladies Day, a great social event with smart attire and big hats. The Grand National itself is run on Saturday and, after the build-up and with the atmosphere electric, the four and a half mile race, over 30 fences, gets under way. No other race arouses so much interest worldwide, with at least 600 million people watching on TV around the globe every year. 

Edinburgh International Science Festival

Until 10 April, Edinburgh

Explore the UK’s largest science festival with over 270 events for families and adults. Their vibrant and varied programme includes everything from fun family days out to talks and discussions from pioneering thinkers. Festivalgoers can enjoy six floors of sensational science at City Art Centre, world class theatre at Summerhall and a host of hands-on activities and more at partner venues across Edinburgh.

Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink

21 – 24 April, Exeter

Exeter Castle Courtyard is transformed into a foodie’s wonderland with treats for all the senses at this annual festival in April. The Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink has been running for more than 12 years, supporting and showcasing the vast array of food and drink from all over the South West. The Exeter Food and Drink Festival is a great day out for the whole family, visitors can attend demonstrations and workshops held by national TV celebrities and other fun family hands-on activities. 

Feast of St George

23 April, London

London celebrates St George’s Day with a day of free activities, food stalls, children’s games and more at the Mayor of London’s annual Feast of St George in Trafalgar Square.
