After a year of learning, networking, and experiencing UK culture first-hand, the Class of 2016 has now returned to their home countries. British embassies and high commissions around the world have been taking the opportunity to welcome them back with a number of events, in addition to helping them to transition into the global alumni network.
Upon receiving their certificates, the new alumni were given words of congratulations and encouragement from the diplomatic mission. In Uzbekistan, British Ambassador Chris Allan emphasised the importance of Chevening in developing future leaders.
‘Our aim is to give Uzbekistan’s high achievers the support they need to realise their potential to the full—to help build a more prosperous Uzbekistan.’
There was also a call to action for alumni across the globe to continue spreading the word about the programme.
‘Congratulations on your achievements,’ said the British Ambassador to Angola, John Dennis. ‘Now we are counting on you, as Chevening Alumni, to help make this opportunity available to your fellow Angolans—please spread the word and be advocates for the Chevening programme.’
In Honduras, Deputy Head of Mission Andrew Tate said: ‘I’m sure you will contribute to the development of Honduras, and as part of the alumni association, to spread the word about Chevening for other Hondurans to follow in your footsteps.’
