Tips to help Chevening Applicants submit a strong UK university application

Getting ready to apply for a UK university? We asked some of our university partners for their top tips to help you stand out.

Are you hoping to become part of the Chevening Class of 2024?

To be in the running, you will need to have secured an unconditional offer from one of your chosen UK university courses by 11 July 2024.

University course deadlines vary. Applications could close before or after you submit your Chevening Application, so if you haven’t already, make sure you start looking into this now.

To help you stand out to UK university admission teams, and to give you the best chance of securing a spot on your dream course, we asked some of our Chevening university partners for their top tips. Here’s what they had to say:

University of St Andrews

‘Let your interest and passion for your subject shine through. The personal statement isn’t a cover letter for a job. We’re looking for students to elaborate on their interest in their subject(s).  And, have others who know you well read it too!’

""

Durham University

‘Make sure you check any relevant dates and deadlines. Most courses applications can be submitted all year round but some highly competitive courses have early deadlines for certain countries and staged admissions. It’s always good to check these dates ahead of time!’

""

University of Nottingham

‘Don’t be afraid to stand out. We believe you should bring your true self to your studies, so make sure that shines through in your application. Showcase your ambition, passion, and how your qualities would make you a great Chevening Scholar.’

""

University of Strathclyde

‘Be original and true to yourself and your experience. Don’t tell us what you think we will want to hear, rather, tell us what you want us to know about you and what makes you the exceptional candidate that you are!’

""

And finally, don’t forget to proofread your work! You don’t want silly spelling and grammar mistakes to overshadow all the hard work and effort you’ve put in.

Wishing you the best of luck!
