The British Consulate General in Hong Kong and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation have signed a one-year agreement to offer Chevening Scholarships in Hong Kong. Scholarships are for students intending to study financial technology-related subjects at any university in the UK.

The Foundation will sponsor two Hong Kong nationals for the 2019/2020 academic year, with the goal of developing Hong Kong’s promising young professionals in the field of financial technology.

Mary Huen, Trustee of the Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) said: ‘Standard Chartered is delighted to partner with Chevening to introduce The Standard Chartered Foundation Chevening Fintech Scholarship. 

‘Investing in our future leaders is vital in building the long-term success of Hong Kong. By nurturing our young fintech talents, we hope to expand and create more possibilities for the the talent pool in Hong Kong.’

Esther Blythe, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Economic Diplomacy at the British Consulate General in Hong Kong, said: ‘The Chevening Scholarships programme brings together young professionals, with the potential to develop into future leaders in their chosen field, from around the world to study in the UK’s world-leading universities.

‘Private partnerships are an important part of our efforts in Hong Kong and I would like to thank the Foundation for their support. I hope we can continue this successful partnership in the years to come.’

The Standard Chartered Foundation Chevening Fintech Scholarship will cover the scholar’s academic tuition fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses, an allowances package, and a return airfare.

Scholars will also benefit from a range of exclusive events and activities whilst they are in the UK, designed to introduce them to various aspects of Britain’s heritage and culture. Scholars will join a strong international network of over 50,000 Chevening Alumni when they graduate, many of whom have developed into leaders across all sectors since the scheme’s inception in 1983.

Applications from eligible candidates must be submitted via www.chevening.org/apply before midday (GMT) on 6 November 2018.
