Founded in the 15th century, St Andrews is the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest university in the English-speaking world.

It was named ‘top university in the UK’ in the Guardian University Guide 2023 and ‘Scottish university of the year’ in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

The University of St Andrews was ranked top in the UK for student academic experience with a 92.7% satisfaction rate (National Student Survey, 2020), and it also secured a Gold Award in the most recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) ranked the University of St Andrews amongst the highest quality in the country, with more than 88% of research carried out by the university classed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

There are over 150 student societies at the University of St Andrews, covering a range of artistic, musical, religious, and cultural pursuits.  Sport is also a valued aspect of university life, with over 50 sports clubs and 100 competitive sports teams to choose from.

With more than 140 countries represented in the 2020-2021 student population, the University of St Andrews is the most international of Scotland’s universities.

The partnership supports scholars studying all Chevening eligible programmes at the University of St Andrews.
