Hi Angus, can you tell us a little bit about what the communications team at Chevening does?

A bit of everything! In an average week we could be creating campaigns for our global social media channels, designing merchandise to market Chevening to new applicants, snapping scholars while they enjoy an event, or writing content for one of our newsletters.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Our team of programme officers share scholars’ stories and achievements from their time in the UK. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and they’re always working on interesting projects. Singing the blues, international powerlifting, competing in beauty pageants, organising international conferences – they certainly keep themselves busy. This makes our job in the communications team very easy.

I also like the chance to be creative, and the variety (see above).

How many events do you get to go along to each year, and do you have a favourite event?

Last year our team went along to 33 events, including tours of political institutions, academic debates, and volunteering events. My highlight was accompanying scholars on a tour of 10 Downing Street. For someone who’s interested in politics, seeing where the big decisions are taken was absolutely fascinating – and a real privilege.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I like to play football, ride my bike, explore London and frequent its galleries, restaurants, festivals, and pubs!
