Laura Alonso

Member of the House of Representatives for Buenos Aires and Head of the Anti-Corruption Office, Argentina

Laura Alonso currently leads the Argentine Anticorruption office. She was an MP, representing Buenos Aires, for over six years before her governmental appointment. Prior to that, she was Director of Transparency International, Argentina. Laura won a Women in Public Leadership award in 2008 and was recognised as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012. With the help of a Chevening Scholarship, she studied for an MSc in Public Administration and Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Dr Ziad Bahaa Eldin

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Egypt

His Excellency Dr Bahaa Eldin is the founder and senior adviser of Thebes Consultancy. Before starting his consultancy practice, he was a senior member of government in Egypt between July 2013 and January 2014. He is a founding member of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party and a former Member of Parliament representing Assiut in Upper Egypt (2012). In 1996, Chevening helped him complete a Doctorate in Philosophy at the London School of Economics, in the disciplines of business and financial law.

Phil Goff

Former Leader of the Labour Party, current Mayor of Auckland, New Zealand

Phil has had a long political career. He has served a total of 15 years as a Cabinet Minister, covering portfolios such as Trade, Foreign Affairs, Defence, Disarmament, Justice, Education, Housing, and the Environment. Phil was leader of the Labour Party from 2008 to 2011. In 2016, he was elected Mayor of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city. He attended the University of Oxford for a short period of study in 1992 under the auspices of Chevening. Phil often speaks very favourably of his time and experiences in the UK.

Drudeisha Madhub

Data Protection Commissioner for the Prime Minister’s Office Mauritius

Drudeisha Madhub studied for an LLM in International Human Rights at the University of Essex, through a Chevening Scholarship. Following her award, she joined the Prime Minister’s Office in Mauritius as Data Protection Commissioner in 2007. In March 2011, she was appointed as Data Protection and Human Rights Expert by Interpol and then became a member of the Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files. In September 2014, Drudeisha was nominated to be a member of the UN Data Privacy Advisory Group. 

Igor Pokaz

Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the UK

After studying at the University of Oxford on the prestigious Foreign Service Programme through a Chevening Scholarship, Igor Pokaz has carved out a distinguished diplomatic career. He has held senior diplomatic positions for over 15 years, including as Croatian ambassador to Russia, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to NATO, as well as spending four years working at a high level in the Ministry of Defence. He was also CEO of Atlantica Grupa Plc, Zagreb, for a short period. As of 2017, he became the Croatian Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
