1. If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail.

Preparation is the key to a strong interview. It should be a daily process you can practice alone or with others.

Rehearse your answers in front of a mirror, say them out loud, or ask someone close to you to challenge you with questions and give honest feedback.

This combination of reflection and rehearsal makes you feel confident on the interview day.

2. Reach out to Chevening scholars

Consider reaching out to previous scholars, especially those from your own country, to learn from.

Remember though that authenticity matters. You are unique, and you have your own story, perspective, and motivation. Share your own experiences, and be honest about your achievements, challenges, and what you have learned along the way.

Remember, it’s like Lego bricks: you are building your story from your goals, views, and experiences, and everything has to make sense as a whole.

Before the interview, make sure you read your essays multiple times. It is completely fine if some of your views or plans have changed since you wrote them, but you must know what you submitted and be able to speak about it confidently.

3. Demonstrate your leadership skills

Demonstrating leadership in the interview often happens through the confidence in the way you answer questions.

Be clear, calm, and self-assured in your responses. The panel will notice not just what you say, but how you say it.

4. Dress professionally

Treat the interview as a professional setting. Dress to impress on the interview day; dressing professionally helps set the tone, shows respect for the opportunity, and boosts your confidence.

5. Ask a thoughtful question at the end to leave a good impression

Finally, consider preparing an interesting question to ask the panel at the end.

Avoid something basic or generic, a thoughtful question shows curiosity, engagement, and genuine interest in the programme. It is your chance to show that you are not only prepared, but also thoughtful and inquisitive.

Good luck!
