What to expect after your Chevening interview

You've completed your Chevening interview. What happens next?

Progressing your UK university offers

If you’re applying for a scholarship, you’ll need to obtain at least one unconditional offer for one of your three chosen courses by 17:00 BST (UK time) on 9 July 2026.

After your interview

All candidates applying for a Chevening Scholarship will be informed of the outcome of their interview by email from mid-June.

Please note that candidates may be notified on different dates; this is perfectly normal as we manage the process across the network of 140 participating countries and territories.

Please do not contact your local British embassy or high commission regarding the status of your application.

Outcomes for fellowships may vary depending on the programme.

If you are conditionally selected to receive a Chevening Scholarship, you will be invited to complete the conditional award task-list on the online application system. This includes:

  • Accepting your conditional award, including our terms and conditions
  • Uploading any offers you have received from your chosen UK university courses
  • Uploading your passport details
  • Completing a health & disability disclosure form

Once the conditional award process has been completed, and your chosen UK university confirms your placement, your Final Award Letter (FAL) will be produced.

You should not apply for your visa until you have received your final award letter. Read our visa and immigration advice.

If you are conditionally selected for a Chevening fellowship, our fellowship team will contact you with next steps.

If you are a reserve candidate, you will be placed on a waiting list. If further funding becomes available, or if a conditionally selected scholar or fellow withdraws from the programme, you may be offered an award. You will be contacted if you are upgraded to a selected candidate.

We will only be able to offer scholarship applicants an upgrade if you have received an unconditional offer from one of your chosen courses.

As a reserve candidate, there is no guarantee that you will be offered an award, so we will not be able to assist with tuition fee deposit waivers. Any payment of course deposit is made at your own risk.

If you are unsuccessful this year, we understand that this will be disappointing news. To have reached interview stage is a huge achievement, and we encourage you to read our application guidance and apply again in future.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on applications or interviews.
