Scholar Events Competition

The Scholar Events Competition is your opportunity to organise and hold your own event for your fellow Chevening Scholars.

Your social event, funded by the Secretariat, will be a chance for scholars to get together, network and explore the UK. If you would like to enhance your organisational skills whilst having fun this is the platform to do it!

The applications schedule for this year’s Scholar Events Competition is as follows, and will also be advertised in the relevant Scholargram:

1st round: applications now open and will close on Thursday, 30 November at 17:00
2nd round: applications open on 4 January and close on 30 January
3rd round: applications open on 1 March and close on 30 March

Your event could be a cultural, sporting or social activity such as a museum visit, a trip to the theatre, a sports tournament or a visit to a place of natural beauty.

Previously scholars have improved their culinary skills at a cookery school, visited Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral (see the example below), gone on a ‘Robin Hood’ adventure in Nottingham and had football training at St George’s Park, the English Football Association's national football centre in Staffordshire.

The Competition is your chance to connect with other Chevening Scholars and help make your fellow scholars’ year in the UK even more memorable.

Funding is offered on a competitive basis across the three competition rounds throughout the year. It can be used to cover the event essentials such as entrance fees, catering or venue hire. It cannot be used to cover scholar travel costs, as these should be met by scholars’ Chevening stipend and/or their events travel top-up allowance. Cost-effective applications are viewed favourably.

Terms and conditions for entering the Scholar Events Competition can be found here and you can view a sample application for the Scholar Events Competition here.

Applications for the first round of the Scholar Events Competition in 2017/2018 are now open and will close on Thursday, 30 November at 17:00. You can submit your entry here.
