After six years of working in the social sector in Mexico, I felt I needed a programme where I could find the research and theory to support my work and practice in the field of media. This course includes a media production set of courses and a set of global studies courses as well. After researching and comparing several master programs, I found a programme at the University of Sussex that not only offers this both areas but also has one of the best development institutes: the IDS.
The highly recognized Institute of Development Studies offers a great opportunity to participate in development events, seminar and workshops. We can attend training workshops with agencies such as The Guardian. Many extracurricular activities are offered to strengthen our critical thinking skills
We have master classes every two weeks, where we have the opportunity to meet professionals who share their experience and recommendations to help us clarify our doubts in the field. In addition, the library has books that are available for consulting physically and online.
The university also organizes various activities to interact with students from different courses like trips around England. So far, I have travelled to Stonehenge, participated in Mexican celebrations of the day of the dead, and also with my partners from the course we have organized weekly screenings of documentaries.
