On 3 November at the British Embassy in Mexico City, a fascinating conference took place titled Latest trends in international trade and its effects on the policies of the countries. Mexico’s Current stance: Globalization vs Protectionism. The Mexican Chevening Alumni Association (MCAA) partnered with the LSE Mexican Alumni Association, PricewaterhouseCoopers Mexico (PwC), and the UK Alumni Association Mexico to deliver this conference. They brought together high profile experts on international trade to debate what is a hot international topic at the moment. Read more

Seven scholars, as well as representatives from the Chevening Secretariat, visited BAE Systems Military Air and Information sites at Warton and Samlesbury in Lancashire on 22 and 23 November 2016. They were hosted by senior BAE Systems representatives and given an overview of the business, as well as visiting their advanced manufacturing and Typhoon final assembly facilities. Seven of the eight Malaysian scholars, generously co-funded by BAE Systems for the 2016/2017 academic year, took part in the visit. Read more

New Chevening Scholars

1,900 Chevening Scholars were officially welcomed to the UK at an inspirational welcome event hosted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) at ExCeL London. Chevening Orientation, the largest event in the Chevening calendar, is an opportunity for all scholars to meet each other for the first time and to start building networks that will last throughout their lives.  Read more

The N8 Research Partnership is a consortium of universities, which aims to maximise impact, promote collaboration, establish innovative research capabilities and programmes, and drive economic growth. This month, twelve Chevening/Gurukul Fellows will begin the twelve-week leadership course hosted by the India Institute at King’s College London. The programme, which runs annually, is aimed at mid-career professionals who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and have already achieved a position of influence in their home countries. The Chevening application process can seem overwhelming for anyone who is doing it for the first time. The British High Commission in Yaoundé, Cameroon have been harnessing the power of the network to help applicants navigate the process. In a new initiative at the high commission, both alumni and current scholars were asked to each coach a potential applicant through the application process. The coaches did not write the application for anyone, but gave tips, moral support, and guidance on how to bring out the best of themselves in their application. Read more

On 25 August 2016, 66 guests gathered at the British embassy in Baku to witness the establishment of the Chevening Alumni Association Azerbaijan (CAAA). Guests were from many sectors of society including journalists, university academics, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Narmin Rahimli, Chevening Alumna (2014) and new president of the association, led the initiative for an exclusive group for Chevening Alumni in Azerbaijan.
