Financial Services fellows at King's College London

The first eight Chevening Standard Chartered Financial Services Fellows were welcomed to the UK at a reception held at their host institution, King’s College London (KCL). The fellowship, which is open to mid-career Indian professionals with a background in finance, seeks to builds expertise in areas such as risk management, actuarial sciences, investment management, and financial regulation. In doing so, it aims to promote cross-border cooperation between India and the UK by sharing best practices and developing a mutual appreciation of regulatory systems. Read more

Forty-five Chevening Fellows from across six different fellowship programmes attended a special networking reception and dinner at Fishmongers’ Hall, London. The third of its kind, the Annual Fellowships Dinner was hosted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The evening brought together fellows from Bangladesh, China, India, Maldives, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, South Africa and Sri Lanka. With such a range of fellows with varying professional and personal backgrounds all in one place, the evening was the perfect networking opportunity for our fellows. Read more

Chevening Scholars had the privilege of an exclusive tour of 10 Downing Street on Wednesday, 12 April, the official residence and office of the UK Prime Minister. 24 scholars won the chance to get a rare glimpse behind the famous black door, inside an historic and elegant building where key decisions have been taken in the UK since 1735, including this week's decision to call a general election. Chevening Scholars seized the opportunity to learn about Welsh politics, language, and cultural distinctiveness through a trip to the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff.  The day-long event was part of the 'Best of British presents…’ series of trips which aims to showcase the national identities, cultures, and political institutions of the four constituent nations that make up the United Kingdom. More than 100 scholars attended or presented at the fourth Chevening Conference, which was hosted by the University of Bradford on Friday, 31 March 2017. The purpose of the annual conference is to give scholars the chance to link their studies to a chosen theme, presenting their own research to academics and their fellow scholars. This year’s theme was ‘Collaborative Leadership’, and the event also gave scholars the opportunity to hear from leading academics. Read more

On 4 March, Chevening Scholars gathered with their families at the British Embassy in Seoul to learn about and discuss the global food crisis at an event co-hosted with Oxfam. The event, titled ‘OXFAM X Sam Kim Food Truck’, gave participants the chance to taste Korean chef Sam Kim’s pasta, learn more about Oxfam Korea’s work, fundraise for Oxfam Korea, and be reminded of how precious a meal can be in a world where not everyone is so lucky.   Read more
