Scholars chat at Chevening Farewell 2016

1,800 Chevening Scholars gathered at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace on Monday, 11 July to celebrate a successful year as part of the programme. It was a chance for scholars to say goodbye to one another, commemorate a year of study and cultural activities in the UK, and also to open up new opportunities as the scholars transition into the global Chevening Alumni network. They were joined by Chevening Alumni, representatives from partner organisations, and staff from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Chevening Secretariat. Read more

In a culmination to a series of scholar engagement events that have taken place across the 2014/2015 cycle, the South Asia Afghanistan Directorate (SAAD) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) hosted a farewell afternoon tea for the South Asian and Afghan Scholars. Read more

On 22 June, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire, Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office presided at an event that brought together 40 scholars from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru and the ambassadors of those countries to mark the launch of a new set of Chevening Scholarships for 2015/2016 – the FCO Pacific Alliance Chevening Scholarships. The Pacific Alliance was founded in 2011 and provides participating countries a free trade area paving the way for education and innovation exchange and development. The UK is an interested observer in the process. Read more

On Tuesday 7 April, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Afghanistan team invited Afghan Chevening scholars to spend the afternoon at the FCO in Westminster. The scholars went on an exclusive tour of the historic building and attended a round table discussion with key members of the Afghanistan Unit and FCO research analysts. The group was also joined by Victoria Schofield, a lecturer in South Asia studies at King’s College London. Read more

Last week, almost 50 Pakistani Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars were welcomed to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for an evening reception hosted by Mr Tobias Ellwood, Minister for the Middle East at the Foreign Office. H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas High Commissioner also attended the event on Mr Ellwood's invitation.
