On 4 March, Chevening Scholars gathered with their families at the British Embassy in Seoul to learn about and discuss the global food crisis at an event co-hosted with Oxfam. The event, titled ‘OXFAM X Sam Kim Food Truck’, gave participants the chance to taste Korean chef Sam Kim’s pasta, learn more about Oxfam Korea’s work, fundraise for Oxfam Korea, and be reminded of how precious a meal can be in a world where not everyone is so lucky.

Oxfam was founded as a British non-profit organisation in 1942 in Oxford to take action against famine. It is now an international confederation of 19 organisations which aims to end poverty. This event helped raise awareness of the global food crisis, which affects almost a billion people (or one in eight) who go to bed hungry every night.

With around 100 people in attendance, the food truck event was a huge success. One alumnus commented: ‘Great support from Oxfam and the embassy, and excellent outcome on charity fundraising [by alumni].’ Having an event with family members was also a big hit with alumni; the sort of event they want to see happen again.
