Chevening Scholarships will be relaunched in Oman, as announced by Jonathan Wilks, the British Ambassador to the sultanate, earlier this month. The programme will be launched in partnership with a number of British businesses active in Oman, Wilks said at a reception held at his residence celebrating the uniquely close friendship between the two countries on the 45th anniversary of the Omani Renaissance. Chevening Alumnus Sujoy Baneerje from India recently won one of the ‘Earth Heroes’ awards offered by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The winners were chosen by an independent jury for their exemplary work on the ground in the field of wildlife and conservation. Awarded in the ‘Green Warrior’ category, Sujoy worked hard to preserve the wildlife and resource abundant National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to a high number of critically endangered and threatened species. Despite his visual impairment, Chevening Alumnus Norali Ali Yusop (2012/2013) from Brunei ran 10K in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon last week to inspire students and special needs centres. Norali has been overcoming disability challenges since the age of 17 when he lost his sight to severe meningitis.
