The UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, in a recent visit to the Caribbean islands of Jamaica and Grenada, announced an immediate doubling of Chevening Scholarships available to Commonwealth Caribbean countries. The increase comes off the back of a tripling of the number of Chevening Scholarships in 2014, and will apply to the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda; the Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Dominica; Grenada; Guyana; Jamaica; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Trinidad and Tobago.   Read more

The Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for 2016/2017 Chevening Scholarships via www.chevening.org/apply from 3 August until 3 November 2015. Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with strong academic backgrounds who also have demonstrable leadership potential. The scholarship offers financial support to study for a Master’s degree at any of the UK’s leading universities and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 44,000 alumni. On 22 June, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire, Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office presided at an event that brought together 40 scholars from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru and the ambassadors of those countries to mark the launch of a new set of Chevening Scholarships for 2015/2016 – the FCO Pacific Alliance Chevening Scholarships. The Pacific Alliance was founded in 2011 and provides participating countries a free trade area paving the way for education and innovation exchange and development. The UK is an interested observer in the process. Read more
